13,000 People Fall into Homelessness Every Month

About 13,000 people on public assistance fall into homelessness every month in Los Angeles County, reported the Los Angeles Times.

The L.A. Times went on to say that many of the 13,000 people that fall into homelessness every month find work or rely on family to get off the streets, but the number experiencing "continuous, unremitting, chronic homelessness" continues to grow.

Fred Jordan Mission is located on Skid Row, in downtown Los Angeles. Every day we see the increase in the number of tents and makeshift homelessness encampments, as tens of thousands of people struggle to just stay alive on the streets, in cardboard boxes, under bridges and freeways, and in alleys. And they are all hungry, all the time.

Since 1944, homeless, hungry people on the streets know there is always food here at Fred Jordan Mission. Few problems in this nation cry out more clearly for a response than the problem of hunger. The need for food is so basic! One television commentator was so moved by the widespread hunger in this nation that he warned that in America, “The veneer of civilization seems to have worn very thin.”

As President of Fred Jordan Missions, I want to assure you that I have had a lifelong commitment to feed hungry children, families and single adults - - in the Mission’s orphanages, schools, churches and hospitals in Japan, Hong Kong, Africa, Korea and Latin America.

Now I ask for your help to feed hungry people right here in our beloved America. We serve hot meals in our dining room, distribute family food bags-to-go, and we always share Jesus, the Bread of Life.
