Are You on a Sit-down Strike?
Dr. R.G. Lee was an eloquent preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and tens of thousands of people came to faith under his preaching. Known as a preacher’s preacher, Dr. Lee once said, “The greatest sit-down strike in the world is in our churches, where those claiming to be saved have not yet become fishers of men. Not one verse in the Bible commands lost sinners to go to church. But numerous verses tell the church to GO to the sinners!”
You and I have read all the verses – “Go … preach the Gospel to every creature.” “Go and make disciples…” “You shall be my witnesses…” “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”
But I often wonder: Are we, as believers, on a sit-down strike, or are we following His invitation to become fishers of men?
I was a teenager when I realized that God has called me to share the gospel. What an honor! It changed the course of my life!
I often wonder if we fully grasp what a holy calling we have been given by the God of the universe? Man sinned, but God’s Son, Jesus, paid the penalty for our sins through His death on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection. Jesus has returned to Heaven, but God calls us to join Him in His Mission to redeem the world.
This call from God brought my late husband, Fred Jordan, to the streets of Skid Row in 1944, and we are here today because God’s call still rings out to us all.
Please, will you join us in fishing for the souls of men, women, and even little children here in the inner city?
