Carry Your Light

Several centuries ago in a mountain village in Europe, a wealthy nobleman wanted to leave a legacy to his townspeople.

The nobleman decided to build the townspeople a church. At its grand opening, the people gathered and marveled at the beauty of the new church. It was a masterpiece.

But suddenly someone said, "Where are the lamps? It is really dark in here. How will the church be lighted?" The nobleman pointed to some brackets in the walls, and then he gave each family a lamp.

"Each time you come to worship,” the nobleman said, "you are to carry your lamp, and the place where you are seated will be lighted. Each time you do not come, your place in God’s house will be dark.”

Jesus said, “You are the world’s light. Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all to see”

This story of the church without lamps made me think: Where has God called you to carry your light? Are there dark corners in your world where you have hidden your light because you were afraid of ridicule from family or friends? Or is there a dark corner where you have hidden your light because you were afraid to share your faith?

Friend, I need your help to continue carrying Jesus, the Light of the world, to those living in darkness on the streets of Skid Row.

Blessings,

Willie Jordan
