Change Really Necessary?

When the railroads were first introduced to the U.S., some folks feared that they'd be the downfall of the nation!

The governor of New York wrote a letter to then President Jackson dated January 31, 1829. Here’s what he wrote…

“As you may know, Mr. President, 'railroad' carriages are pulled at the enormous speed of 15 miles per hour by 'engines' which, in addition to endangering life and limb of passengers, roar and snort their way through the countryside, setting fire to crops, scaring the livestock and frightening women and children. The Almighty certainly never intended that people should travel at such breakneck speed. Signed, Martin Van Buren Governor of New York.

It’s all about change. Some people are fearful of change, but I must admit that I love the challenge of change. I work here on Skid Row, and our primary goal is to see God’s Holy Spirit change the hearts and lives of children, women and men here in the inner city. The Good News of the Gospel is that change is not only possible, but it is evidence that we have become a new creature in Jesus Christ.

We can’t change the course of the moon or the sun, the flow of the ocean, or the stars in the skies. However, we can share the Gospel of Christ, for it is His power that changes hearts and lives. That’s what the new birth is all about.

Friend, don’t be afraid of change - - in fact, I invite you to join us here at Fred Jordan Mission and become an agent of change, by serving those who are hungry and hurting, and by sharing Jesus Christ with those in need. You can help bring change to lost, hurting people here on Skid Row by phoning toll free, 1-844-FJM-FOOD. Use a credit card when you call, or when you donate online, http://fjm.org/donate.
