COMPASSION is an Action Word

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages… When He saw the multitudes, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36 NIV).

“Moved with compassion.” What a beautiful picture of our Savior! Compassion expresses the deepest human emotion; a yearning of the innermost man; the very core of one’s soul. To me, this one statement is a clue to the Savior’s entire life and character.

Before the foundation of the earth, God’s compassion reached out to you and to me. Way back then, His thoughts were on you and on me. He sent His One and Only Son, Jesus, the Lamb of God, to die for the sins of the world.

Compassion describes perfectly the character of Jesus - - -

To a LEPER: "Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand, touched the man, and said, "Be clean!" (Mark 1:41).

To a WIDOW: "When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not" (Luke 7:13).

To the BLIND MEN: " Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes.” (Matthew 20:34).

To the NEEDY MULTITUDES: "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were helpless.” (Matthew. 14:14)

When Jesus was moved with compassion, He acted. The Nike commercial says, “Just do it!” Jesus always did something! Biblical compassion is not a passive term. Biblical compassion is always active!

Does your heart ache for lost souls, for hungry, homeless people? If so, have you acted on that compassion? Put your hands where your heart is. Come to Skid Row. Share God’s love. Serve good food to hungry people. Join us in learning to be a servant.

Or support a servant to serve in your place, by making a donation: call 1-844-FJM-FOOD, or go to our website, fjm.org.

The compassion of Jesus always leads to action, whether preaching the Good News of the gospel, healing, providing, or calling others to serve!

Blessings,
