God and the Spider

During World War II, a US marine unit was involved in intense fighting on an island in the South Pacific, and in the crossfire a marine lost touch with his comrades.

Alone in the jungle, the marine could hear enemy soldiers coming his way. Scrambling up a high ridge for cover, he crawled inside a small cave. But he quickly realized that the enemy soldiers would search all the caves and he would be killed.

Desperate, he prayed, "Lord, please protect me. I love you and trust you. Amen."

As he heard the enemy getting closer, he thought, "Well, I guess the Lord isn't going to get me out of this one." And then he saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of his cave.

Listening for enemy voices, he watched the spider layering strand after strand of web across the opening of the cave, and he thought. "God must have a sense of humor. I need a brick wall and he sends me is a spider web."

As the enemy came to the opening of his cave, he got ready to make his last stand. But to his amazement, however, they walked on by. Suddenly, he realized that with the spider web over the entrance, his cave looked as if no one had entered for quite a while. "Lord, forgive me," prayed the young man. "I had forgotten that with you in control, a spider's web is stronger than a brick wall."

No matter what you’re facing today, God’s spider web is much stronger than any brick wall you try to build in your life.
