God is Faithful

Television camera crews waited anxiously in the hospital emergency room for just a word from my late husband, Fred Jordan, who lay dying in the hospital in April, 1988.

Fred had been hospitalized for 22 days, following a sudden, massive heart attack. Television and radio stations carried the news, and a TV crew came to the hospital for an update on his condition, hoping to get a personal word from Fred.

Before going to talk with the reporter, I asked Fred if he had a word to share, and he said: “Please tell our friends that I have learned one thing during these three weeks in the hospital – I have learned that God is faithful.”

When I recall Fred’s last words, I always feel that my faith is so small. Fred trusted God for everything during nearly 60 years of sharing the gospel throughout the world – funds to teach God’s Word here at the Mission, and in all the churches and schools we built in Asia, Latin America, and Africa; funds to cook the tons of food for hungry people every day here on Skid Row, and at all the orphanages and schools we built around the world; funds to take the gospel to the streets; and funds to train more soul winners.

However, now that Fred is with the Lord, I’m honest to confess that I miss his strong faith, and I miss his strong shoulder to lean on. When I see all the needs of hurting people, and look at all the opportunities the Lord has placed before us to reach them with the gospel, I miss Fred’s unwavering faith to trust God, no matter what the needs were, and no matter how difficult the challenges.

That’s why I am so grateful for compassionate friends like you, who share our vision for reaching lost, hurting people with the love of Jesus. And that’s why I ask for your help today.

And always remember Fred’s words - - God is faithful.

Blessings,

Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
