God's Guidelines for Answered Prayer
"Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure," claimed Dwight L. Moody. I’m sure we all believe in the importance of prayer, yet how many of us really pray?
We live in a chaotic world – bombings and shootings by Islamic terrorists, gangs and drugs turning too many of our cities into killing fields, and more than 48 million Americans are hungry.
In the light of national and world events, is prayer really necessary? Listen to God’s answer: “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJ)
Notice that God’s promise to heal this wicked, sinful nation was written to “my people, called by My name.” This means that if you and I want God to hear, forgive and heal, we must use his guidelines when we pray – humble ourselves, seek His face, turn from our sins.
Is prayer really necessary? I answer with the standard which Thomas Hooker set for his life: “Prayer is my life work, and it is by means of it that I carry on the rest.”
Friend, without prayer, nothing else matters.
Please pray for us today as we preach the gospel and serve the homeless here at the Mission on Skid Row in Los Angeles.
Blessings,
