His Last Day on Earth

One hot summer evening, as our Mission staff members were cleaning up the dining room, they heard a knock at the door.

They immediately recognized the man at the door, since he had been in our Chapel service, and enjoyed dinner with us in our dining room afterwards, and he had forgotten his hat in our dining room.

This dear man came to the Mission’s Chapel services every day, and he always wore a sharp looking straw hat. He had no family, and we had been his family for several years. In fact, my staff often said they felt that the reason he came to the Mission was to hear the Bible messages, and for the warm fellowship, even more than for the hot meal in our dining room following the services.

The man found his hat, thanked the staff and walked out the door. That was our friend’s last time at the Mission. He went outside, sat down, and sometime during the night, he went into the presence of Jesus.

But thanks to compassionate friends like you, this man died knowing that he was loved, and he always knew he was welcome here at the Mission. On his final day on Earth, he worshiped the Lord in our Chapel. He heard an encouraging message from the Word of God. Then he sat down to a delicious, nourishing meal in our clean, welcoming dining room.

Thank you for praying for our homeless friends here on the streets. Thank you for your generosity that enables us to reach out to the older men and women here on the streets. They worked hard all their lives, and now find themselves spending their last years here on Skid Row, and they need our help.

When our homeless guests walk out the Mission’s doors, and go back to these cruel streets, we never know if—or when—we’ll see them again, like this dear man. Thank you for your prayers and financial support that helps us share God’s love with precious souls here on Skid Row.

Join us with more stories from the streets of Skid Row, every Sunday morning, 8:00 AM, KCOP-TV, Channel 13.

Blessings,

Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
