How Could Christ Become SIN?

Martin Luther said, "Christ became what He was not -"Sin" in order that we might become what we were not - "the Righteousness of God."

Martin Luther was stating the gospel truth, since 2 Corinthians 5 tells us, “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

The One who had no sin took the sins of the world upon Himself. The sinless One, Jesus the Christ, became the Lamb that was slain to atone for all human sinfulness. He made himself subject to death.

Matthew Henry wrote, “We are the purchase of His blood, and the monuments of His grace.”

When we accept Christ’s sacrifice for our sin, we are clothed in His righteousness, for as Paul wrote, “in Him we become the righteousness of God,”

This is why Jesus came into this world – to pay the penalty for our sins, and restore our relationship with God. He came to seek and to save that which was lost, and before He returned to Heaven, Jesus gathered around Him a select group of men and women to carry on His work. The one thing that distinguished these men and women was that they had become children of God, and when Christ left them, He gave them a mission to preach this gospel to all nations, to all people.
