Lord, I'm Coming Home

“I’ve wandered far away from God, Now I’m coming home;

The paths of sin too long I’ve trod, Lord, I’m coming home.”

When I walk into the Mission’s Chapel here on Skid Row and see it filled with lost, lonely, forgotten men and women, I remember this old hymn that I learned in church as a child.

I didn’t fully understand the words when I was a child, but sadly, I understand them now - -

“I’ve wasted many precious years, Now I’m coming home;

I now repent with bitter tears, Lord, I’m coming home.”

This poignant hymn was written more than 100 years ago, but the words might well have been written today for the men and women who live on these streets - -

“My only hope, my only plea, That Jesus died, and died for me,

I need His cleansing blood I know, Oh, wash me whiter than the snow, Lord, I’m coming home.”

Friend, if you have wandered far away from God, if you’ve wasted too many precious years like so many of my homeless friends here on Skid Row, it’s time to come home.

The prodigal son said, “I will go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against Heaven and you.'” Your heavenly Father stands ready to forgive your sins if you will only repent, and ask for His forgiveness through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.

Please let me help you come home to your Father. Go to fjm.org, and click on, Know God. And please write to me if I can be of help.

Blessings,

Willie L. Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
