Mother's Day Memories
My late husband, Fred Jordan, often said that he loved to preach the gospel on Skid Row on Mother’s Day more than just about any other day.
He said that the hearts of men and women here on the street were more tender on Mother’s Day, since most of them could remember a praying mother or a loving grandmother. And even though they had wandered from the God of their mother or grandmother, those childhood memories still lingered, and made the men and women more receptive to hearing the gospel.
But sadly, our nation has changed in recent decades. God has been pushed aside by our government leaders and mocked by our university professors. This has led to the spiritual downfall of far too many American families who no longer attend church, read the Bible, or pray with, and pray for their children.
We see this spiritual vacuum on American streets, where drugs are commonplace, where homelessness is the new norm, and where abandoned mothers and children struggle to survive. Today we find very few men or women here on the streets who have warm, childhood memories of a praying mother or a loving grandmother.
But praise God, His love still melts the hardest hearts of lonely men and abused women who have been cast aside by family, friends, and by society - - the hungry, the homeless, the poor, the drunks, the prostitutes, and the ex-convicts living here on America's streets.
Mother’s Day is just days away, and I would like to give these mothers a priceless gift – the gift of your prayers. If you will pray for mothers here on the streets, please send me your first name to add to a beautiful Mother’s Day card, to tell at least one struggling mother that you are praying for her.
Please pray, and please send your gift to help us share God’s love on Mother’s Day – 1-844-FJM-FOOD. Use a credit card when you phone, or when you donate online, fjm.org. Or make out your check to Fred Jordan Mission, and mail it to me, at PO Box 12345, Covina, CA 91722.
Blessings,
Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
