Parents, what is our Responsibility?

Parents, let me ask you a question: Do you realize that our children’s eternal destiny hinges on where they place their faith?

You can take your children to swim lessons, dance class, or to soccer practice, but if you fail to center your own life in God’s Word, read the Word and pray daily with your children, stay in a good church where you and your children receive good Bible teaching and fellowship, you are failing them.

Parents, we are responsible to bring our child up in the ways of the Lord, and teach them to live a godly life that is honest, pure, with integrity and compassion for others.

Oh, I know that today this might sound like an old-fashioned idea, but Proverbs says that the primary responsibility for teaching our children lies directly with us, the parents.

This is the responsibility of both parents, if you have a two-parent family. But too often today, there is a broken home, and one parent cares for the children alone, and that’s difficult.

My heart goes out to single parents who struggle alone, whether it is a single father, or a single mother. I see so many single mothers here in the inner city. Costs are skyrocketing, and these mothers are forced to decide every day whether they will feed their children, or try to keep a roof over their heads.

Fred and I had seven children, and when our children were young we were both there for them, to love them, and guide them. And we had each other to talk with and pray with when there was a problem.

I’ve been a widow, and a single mother since 1988, when my dear husband, Fred, died. And I’m honest to tell you that it’s hard.

I can’t imagine what our lives would have been like if Fred had died when our seven children were small. I don’t know how I would have coped!

If you’re a single mother or a single father, I urge you to get into a good Bible study group for fellowship and support. You need it for yourself, and you need it for your children!

Many of our homeless friends here on the streets of Skid Row didn’t have even a one-parent home. They grew up on the streets. No one to love them. No one to teach them good values, no one to teach them God’s Word.

Please let me know you will join us in praying for lost, hurting, homeless families and children here in this inner city.

I would also ask you to give us the honor of praying for your children and your grandchildren.

Go to our website, fjm.org, and give me their names, and we will join you in praying for them.

And I would be so grateful if you can help us share God’s love and God’s Word with every person who walks through our doors.

Blessings,

Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
