Preach Good News

Jesus said: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, proclaim freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.”

Fred Jordan Mission is right in the middle of America’s Skid Row, in downtown Los Angeles, the undisputed Homeless Capital of the nation. This area of the city is a pocket of unspeakable misery.

Just a short walk from City Hall, the 2.5 billion dollar LA LIVE, the sports and entertainment district featuring music venues, night clubs, trendy restaurants and theaters, Skid Row has the nation’s largest concentration of homeless people living and sleeping on public sidewalks in ragged tents or right on the cold sidewalks.

The Lord called my late husband, Fred Jordan, to open the Mission in the heart of Skid Row in 1944, to preach Good News to precious souls living on these streets of pain and suffering, and to feed hungry people.

More than 70 years later, the Mission is still here. We are still preaching good news to the poor, and proclaiming to every lost soul that God can save them from their sin, set them free from their prisons of addictions, transform their hearts, and restore their shattered lives. And we are still feeding hungry people.

It’s almost Christmas, when we celebrate Jesus, God’s Good News for us all. Will you partner with us to continue sharing this Good News here on Skid Row?

Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
