Puppies for Sale

The little boy asked the farmer, "Hey, Mister, could I look at the puppies you have for sale?"

"Sure," said the farmer. “Come here, Dolly!” he yelled. Out came Dolly, and four little balls of fur, followed by a slower little dog, because it had been born with a deformed leg.

Suddenly, the little boy shouted, "I want that one!" But the farmer said: "Son, you don't want that puppy. He’ll never be able to run with you like the other dogs." Then the boy reached down and pulled up one leg of his pants, revealing a steel brace attached to a specially made shoe. Looking up at the farmer he said, "Mister, I'll never be able to run with the other boys either, and that little puppy will need somebody who understands."

We all need somebody who understands. My friends here on Skid Row need somebody who understands their pain, their loneliness, their broken hearts. Isaiah wrote of one such person, “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.”
