Soul Winning Servants

“I would sooner bring one sinner to Jesus Christ than unravel all the mysteries of the divine Word, for salvation is the one thing we are to live for,” said the great preacher, Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

I think I know a little of what Spurgeon meant, because I have had the joy of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ for more than 65-years, with boys and girls, and men and women all over the world! And I often feel that I am the most blessed person on the face of the earth.

Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” When I first read this verse, I realized that this very simple statement included me. It is easy to understand. If we are truly following Jesus, He will make us soul winners.

Through the years I have learned one basic principle for evangelism. If you desire to be a soul winner, I believe this will be helpful to you, also.

Dr. Raymond Edman, the late president of Wheaton College, stated this principle clearly when he said: “Our job is not to train leaders, but to train servants.”

Friend, one of the first requirements for a Christian, and for a soul winner, is to be a servant. Far too many people want to be a great leader, but I believe we need great servants.

If we follow our Master’s example, as well as follow His teachings, we must be a servant. Jesus talked about how quickly godless rulers throw their weight around, and how quickly a little power goes to their heads.

And then Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served.” (MSG)

If you desire to be used of God, you must be willing to serve in the humble places. Regardless of our positions and titles in life, Jesus says we MUST become a servant.
