This is for you, Daddy

I’m a sucker for Christmas stories about children. I read about the man who scolded his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper when she tried to wrap a box to put under the Christmas tree. Money was tight, and he was really upset.

On Christmas morning the little girl brought the crudely wrapped gift to her father and said, "This is for you, Daddy." The father was embarrassed by his earlier outburst once he realized the gift was for him. But when he opened the gift, he found that the box was empty, and he got upset again, "Don't you know that when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside the box?"

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy it's not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy." The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her forgiveness. He kept that gold box by his bed for years, and whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of his child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us has been given a container filled with unconditional love and kisses from God. Through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, we have eternal life. If there are times when it seems as if He has left us to make it on our own, remember this – there is no more precious gift anyone could receive than the box filled with God’s love, and His promise that He will NEVER leave us, NEVER forsake us.
