Why Me?

Job once asked the profound question . . . "Shall we accept good from God, and not accept adversity?"

Colonel Bill Kehler's son, Tim was a strong Christian with a bright future in the military, but tragically, Tim was killed during bombing practice at the Air Force Academy. "Why Tim?" asked a young friend. Tim’s father, Colonel Kehler answered, "Why not Tim?"

This reminds me of Job, a man who “feared God," the Bible says. He had seven sons, three daughters, and 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, and 1,000 head of cattle. And suddenly, his life fell apart.

Sabeans stole his cattle. Lightning killed his sheep. Chaldeans stole his camels, and a tornado killed his children. But he still trusted God. And then Job’s body was covered in sores. His wife told him to curse God, and die.

But Job didn’t think he should be immune to suffering because of his faith. He didn’t ask, “Why me?” Instead, he told his wife: “Shall we accept good from God, and not accept adversity?”

Friend, when tragedy comes, as it comes to us all, don’t ask, "Why me?" Instead, remember that Jesus is, Emmanuel – God is with you!

My homeless friends here on Skid Row have lost everything. Please help us share with them God’s love and forgiveness, help us feed them, and so much more.

Blessings,
