Most Americans believe good mothers and fathers must be loving, supportive and protecting, but few see the necessity of parents having a commitment to Christianity or religion, according to a recent survey.
According to the LifeWay survey, "Loving" is the No. 1 characteristic deemed mandatory for mothers and fathers.
One wouldn’t expect a non-Christian to value a Christian commitment among parents today, but since 3 out of 4 Americans say their religious preference is Christian, Catholic or Protestant, only a third of these people appear to value parents modeling a commitment to Jesus Christ to their children.
But make no mistake, the Bible clearly shows that God placed value on teaching our children. He told Moses to stress to his people the importance of teaching their children about the Lord and His commands and laws: : “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates” (Deuteronomy 6:7-9).
His thoroughness underscores Moses’ deep concern that successive generations maintain obedience to God’s laws to ensure they would “live safely in the land.”
I don’t know about you, but as a parent, I’ll follow God’s parental guidelines any day, by first seeking His will for my life every day, and then by passing along God’s Word to my children, my grandchildren and future generations.
I would be honored to pray for your children and your grandchildren by name, asking God to guide their lives, and show them His way. Write to me, and include their names – Willie Jordan, PO BOX 12345, Covina, CA 91722.
When you write to me, be sure to ask for the card with a Prayer for Children.
Blessings,
