A Man Sent from God
“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.” What a powerful introduction from God’s Word!
I’m sure there were other men throughout history who were sent from God to call sinners to repentance, men like Martin Luther, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, Dwight L. Moody, Billy Sunday, and the list goes on.
But has there ever been one equal to John the Baptist, about whom Jesus said, “There hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist.”
When he became a young man, John lived in the wilderness, eating a diet of locusts and wild honey. He dressed in camel’s hair, much like an Old Testament Prophet. People flocked to hear him, because they knew he was a preacher who was different.
John told the people that he was not the Light of the World. He came to announce that Jesus was that Light. Then John said, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
The people were blinded by their sin and iniquity, and John the Baptist was a witness, testifying to what he had seen and heard, just as you and I are called to be a witness, pointing sinners to repentance.
Please help us continue preaching this simple message here on Skid Row in Los Angeles, just as we have done since 1944.
