Repent
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” preached John the Baptist to the crowds that followed him.
God’s Word is clear: the only way to enter God’s kingdom is through Jesus Christ, and we will never get to Him without repentance. Repentance is having genuine sorrow over our sins which makes us turn away from our sins, and turn to God.
In his book, I Surrender, Patrick Morley writes that the church's integrity problem is in the misconception "that we can add Christ to our lives, but not subtract sin, a change in belief without a change in behavior.”
Whether preaching from a pulpit, or sharing our faith one-on-one, we must never leave out the fact that man is a sinner, and that he can never get right with God until he repents of his sin, turns away from it, and turns to God through faith in Jesus Christ.
One dear old preacher said you can put the Atlantic Ocean into a teacup easier than you can get to heaven without repentance. And Morley reminds us that “repent” was the first word John the Baptist preached and “repent” was the last word Jesus preached in Revelation.
Please help us continue preaching repentance and salvation here at the Mission on Skid Row.
