A Pithy, Memorable Saying
The seminary professor was the master of the pithy, memorable saying. This was his pithy table blessing: "Lord, we thank you for food: food for the soul and food for the body. May we never lack for either and give us an appetite for both."
Food for the soul and food for the body. Memorable, pithy, yes! I love it, because this is what Fred Jordan Mission has been all about for more than 70 years. My late husband, Fred Jordan, founded the Mission in 1944 here in Los Angeles, because of a call from God to share Jesus, the Bread of Life for the soul, and bread, the staff of life for the body.
We provide food, new clothing, hygiene kits, blankets, and so much more for homeless families and children throughout the year, but our primary calling is all about food.
God sent manna, bread from heaven, for the children of Israel to eat in the wilderness. In the same way, Jesus multiplied the loaves and fish and fed thousands on the hillside.
Will you help us share Jesus, the Bread of Life with children this summer, and share bread, the staff of life. School’s out, and there’s no free lunch for hungry children.
“Lord, we thank you for food: food for the soul and food for the body. May we never lack for either and give us an appetite for both.”
Blessings,
Willie Jordan
