Are you Destitute?

“He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea,” wrote the Psalmist.

This promise is for you and me, and it is also for my poor, homeless friends who are destitute here on Skid Row, whom God has called us to serve. God will not despise their plea.

You may not feel as destitute as some of my homeless friends here on the streets, without a roof over your head, or food to eat. The dictionary defines destitute this way: “lacking something needed.” We are all destitute. We all lack something in our lives.

I don’t know about you, but I pray every day for more of God’s love in my life, more of His presence, and more of His power. And I can tell you from personal experience that God always responds to our cries.

I love what Oswald Chambers said about prayer: “Prayer is getting ourselves attuned to God, not getting God attuned to us. The purpose of prayer is to reveal the presence of God.” Friend, I want His presence in my life. What about you?
