Empty Cradle! Empty Cross! Empty Grave!

“Before we can begin to see the cross as something done for us, we have to see it as something done by us,” wrote the late John Stott, well known throughout the world for his writings and godly influence in the global church.

John Stott’s statement is so very true. Jesus went to the Cross because of our sins. The Cross was the instrument of suffering and death, and the Cross became our symbol of forgiveness and redemption.

The Cross is empty because Jesus was the final sacrifice, the final Paschal Lamb. No longer would bloody sacrifices need to be made for the forgiveness of sins. This act and the empty cross echo Jesus' last words, "It is finished.”

Jesus paid the price in full for “whosoever believes in Him.”

Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus took Jesus' body down from the cross and lovingly laid it in the tomb. On the third day, when the women went to the tomb, the stone had been rolled aside and the tomb was empty. The tomb is empty because not even death could hold the Son of God. The tomb is empty is empty because Jesus conquered death and He offers us eternal life with Him.

Jesus said, “Because I live, you too shall live!” Once again this Easter we will proclaim here on Skid Row the gospel - - we have salvation through the physical, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ here. For it is the power of the Resurrection, and the transformation it brings to hearts and lives, that gives new life to all those who will receive it.

The Cradle, the Cross and the Grave are all empty, because of Christ’s physical, bodily resurrection!
