Have You Crashed?
Captain Eddie Rickenbacker and a crew of seven seemed doomed as they crashed into the waters of the Pacific during WW 2. Amazingly, they survived 21 days by hand-catching fish, drinking rainwater and praying.
Captain Eddie Rickenbacker was an American fighter ace in World War 1 and a Medal of Honor recipient, with 26 aerial victories. During World War 2, the government sent him to the South Pacific on a special mission, and his plane was forced to ditch in the ocean.
Rickenbacker assumed leadership, encouraging and browbeating the others to keep their spirits up while they drifted for 24 days in life rafts at sea. When he was asked how they survived 24 days afloat in the ocean, he shared this prayer that he and his crew prayed often:
"Lord, you know everything I do. You see me, whether I am working were resting; you know all my actions. Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. You're all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding. Where can I go to escape from you? If I fly away beyond the east, or live in the farthest place in the west, you would be there to lead me, you'd be there to help me.”
Have circumstances in your life made you feel as if you’ve crashed into a great big ocean, with sharks coming at you from all sides? Remember that we have the same access to God that Captain Eddie Rickenbacker and his crew had.
God’s promise to Moses and the children of Israel is good today, “Be strong, courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the LORD your God will never leave you nor forsake you."
