What's for Dinner?

“Hey Mom, I’m hungry. What’s for dinner?” Most mothers in this nation hear this question from their children every day, and most mothers have an answer. But sadly, not mothers here on Skid Row and the inner city.

All children seem to be hungry all the time. But children here in the inner city are especially hungry when school is out for the summer, and there is no free school lunch.

No cool, clean water. Too many people living in one room. No relief from the scorching heat. No grass lawns. No shady parks. No trips to summer camp.

Many people think Los Angeles epitomizes the California lifestyle - - red carpet glamour, palatial mansions, warm days at the beach, sunsets over the blue Pacific, and snow-capped mountains in the distance. But these are impossible dreams for inner city children.

School may be out for “summer vacation,” but hunger never takes a vacation. Summer hunger simply increases the misery of poor families in America’s cities. No wonder that summer for children in the inner city is not exciting and fun, but scary, miserable, hot, and hungry!

“Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.’” I need your help to share the love of Jesus with these precious children.

But we can’t do it alone. Your gift today will help us share this Good News, and feed hungry people. Use a credit card or EFT when you go to our website, fjm.org, or when you phone toll free, 1-844-FJM-FOOD. Thank you!

Join us from the streets of Skid Row, on the Mission’s weekly television show, Sunday mornings, 8:00 AM, KCOP-TV, Channel 13.

Blessings,

Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
