In the Beginning was the Word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

These first three verses from the gospel of John are some of my favorite in the entire Bible. I read them often, because the words are so majestic, so thrilling. They give a solid foundation for our faith. The Gospel of John presents a magnificent picture of God only Son, Jesus, the Messiah, the Promised One sent by God to provide salvation.

These three verses state clearly that Christ was in the beginning, that Christ was with God in the beginning, and that Christ was God.

My late husband, Fred, often said that you will learn more about the person, and the character of Jesus Christ by reading the gospel of John, than you will learn from any other book.

Jesus Christ is God! He came to earth to provide salvation to all who would believe. Jesus said, “I am the Way, and the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me.”

One theologian put it this way: “Jesus does not give recipes that show the way to God as other teachers of religion do. He is Himself the way.”
