Are you Thirsty or Hungry?

“Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink – even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk – it’s all free! Why spend your money on bread that does not give you strength? Come to me, and you will enjoy the finest food.”

These words are from the prophet Isaiah, calling sinners to repentance, inviting us to receive all of God’s blessings. “Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised David.” God will fulfill his promises to us, just as He fulfilled His promises to David.

God made a covenant with His servant, King David, and now God extends that covenant, that promise, that gift, to all of us. What will be our response? Our response should be immediate, because this is a call from God Himself.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call on him now while he is near. Turn to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”

He is offering to us more than manna, to sustain us for a day, like the children of Israel wandering in the desert forty years. He is offering us food for eternity. This is Jesus, the Bread of Life. Even if we have no money, the Lord bids us to come, buy and eat. If you are thirsty, come. If you are hungry, come. If you are lonely, come; heartbroken, come; poor, come; oppressed, rich or prosperous - - come. God’s gift of salvation is free. Please come.
