Summer in the City is a Nightmare

It rips my heart out to see little children around the world suffer from lack of food, from lack of housing, or from abuse at the hands of adults. But it’s even harder to see children living in poverty here in America’s inner cities - - children who have absolutely no chance in life.

Summer in the inner cities is a nightmare for the children. Day after day, small children are confined to play in narrow hallways in run-down slum flophouses. They would play inside their tiny one-room homes, but there's simply no space. The summer heat is stifling, and there is no air conditioning, or even ceiling fans.

Children can’t even play in the streets, because the streets of Skid Row and the inner city are not for kids. That's where the drunks, the drug addicts, and the gangs hang out. Even our inner-city parks are controlled by drug pushers and drug users.

That's why I need your help. This summer we will attack the spiritual darkness on these streets and in the back alleys by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. And we’ll attack the hunger and malnutrition by serving good food to hungry children and families,

At the same time, with support from generous partners like you, we will continue all the Mission's daily programs of Chapel services, nourishing meals in our dining room, and family food sacks for needy children and parents.

The days are getting hotter and the streets even more miserable. But your summer gift today of $25, $50, $100 or even more, will help us share the Good News, and feed hungry people. Use a credit card or EFT when you go to our website, fjm.org, or when you phone toll free, 1-844-FJM-FOOD. If it is more convenient, please mail your donation to me at PO BOX 12345, Covina, CA 91722.

Remember to join my family and me for Fred Jordan Mission’s weekly television program - - Sunday mornings, 8:00 AM, KCOP-TV, Channel 13.

Blessings,
