Would You Pass the Test?
My late husband, Fred Jordan, once preached a message on television that he titled, Cheap Grace. Fred’s point was the fact that God’s grace is not cheap, though people sometimes trivialize it.
“God’s grace cost God everything, when He sent His Son to the cross to provide our salvation,” said the U.S. Military Chaplain to the soldiers in his company. He went on to say, "There are two possibilities following death - - - Heaven, and hell. To help you know your eternal destination, I will give you a test, and the results will give you your answer."
The Chaplain’s first test question: “On a scale of one to ten, have you always loved God above all else and not put anything else before Him?" He continued the test with other similar questions.
Finally, one of the men asked, "Chaplain, what's a passing score for this test?” The Chaplain answered, "100 points." The men shook their heads. "What's the use of trying? No one could be that perfect - - we’re all doomed."
Smiling, the Chaplain said, "You’re right, but I've got good news. Jesus is the only One who took this test and made a perfect score, with 00 points! The purpose of this test for us is not to score 100 points, but to show us our need for His help.”
Friend, just like Fred stressed in his television message, and as the Chaplain stressed in His test, not one of us will ever score 100 points, but we can substitute Jesus’ test score for ours. He paid the penalty for your sins and mine on the cross. God’s grace isn’t cheap - - God’s grace is free. Jesus paid the price.
Will you receive God’s gift of salvation today?
Blessings,
Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
