Vision to See, Faith to Believe, Courage to Do

In 1939, the Santa Fe, the Union Pacific, and the Southern Pacific Railways merged in Los Angeles to build the last great American rail station; Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Long before automobiles filled our roads and planes filled the skies Americans traveled by train. The mission is less than a mile from Union Station and outside the station’s main entrance is a sun dial with a plaque placed there by the man who fulfilled their dream of connecting the nation’s great rail road systems.

The inscription reads, “Vision to See, Faith to Believe, Courage to Do”.

The bible says,… “where there is no vision the people perish.”

The Lord gave my late husband, Fred Jordan, a vision to see a lost, hurting world desperately in need of God’s love. The Lord gave me a similar vision, in-fact we were drawn together by a shared vision. Vision gives purpose to life; vision is inspired by an idea, but once it gets into our hearts it is palpable. We see it as if it already exists. It’s wonderful to have physical sight, but far more important is what the scripture calls vision. Spiritual vision goes beyond the physical capacity to see. When asked to define rhythm Duke Ellington said, “If you’ve got it, you don’t need no definition… if you don’t have it, aint no definition gonna help.”

I would say the same about vision. If you have it, you know it. If you don’t, no explanation will help.

Fred and I shared a compelling vision that still helps guide this ministry. Fred Jordan Mission is called to declare God’s love by teaching his word, and to demonstrate God’s love by meeting human needs.

Please, will you share this vision? Will you help us make it a reality here on Skid Row? You can donate online at http://fjm.org/donate

Blessings,
