Who Loves Your Children More Than You Do?
Have you ever stopped to realize that God loves your children even more than you love them?
Most parents wonder how they can be a better parent. Fred and I have seven children, and I am by no means an expert, but perhaps I can share a few of the things that I learned along the way. First, being a parent is hard, and no parent is guaranteed perfect children.
I believe the most important thing we can do for our children is to pray for them. In fact, Fred and I prayed for each child as soon as knew we were expecting, and I have prayed for them every day since then.
We do not control our children. We guide them, and then pray for God to do those things in their hearts that we cannot do. I have always loved Ephesians 2, because it shows me my limitations: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
If even our faith to believe in God is a gift from Him, then we obviously realize we can’t control our children. Place them in God’s hands, and then pray often for them.
My late husband, Fred, seemed to have unlimited faith to believe God would take care of our children, while I wasted hours worrying over them. Not long before his death, Fred said to me, “Baby, do you realize that most of the things you have spent your life worrying about, never happened?” And Fred was so right!
Parents, don’t despair. There is no perfect parent, but our Father God is perfect. He loves our children even more than we do. In fact, He sent His Son, Jesus, to save our sons and our daughters!
