FREEDOM!
July 4th is just a few days away. Hotdogs will fire up on grills, fireworks will launch into the skies, and many will gather with family and friends to recognize and celebrate our freedom on this Independence Day.
In New York Harbor stands a 150-foot-high statue, famously known as “Lady Liberty,” holding a 30-foot flame that symbolizes our freedom.
The founding fathers of the United States cried for liberty under English rule, as penned in the“Declaration of Independence”:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The cry for freedom found in Christianity far precedes the modern understanding of freedom. In Galatians 5:1, the Bible emphatically states that believers are free in Christ:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”
Jesus’ sacrificial death fulfilled the law, setting believers free from the law of sin and death. Through the Spirit of God, His laws are now written in our hearts, allowing us to serve and follow Jesus in ways that please and glorify Him.
As we approach Independence Day, let us enjoy our freedom and liberties and remember Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. This sacrifice grants access to freedom for all, including our friends on SkidRow and all those in the surrounding communities we serve at Fred Jordan Missions.

This summer, it has been extremely challenging for us to operate the Mission, but we are trusting Jesus. We are asking for your support and generosity. Whether you have donated in the past or not, please PRAY about giving beyond what you have generously donated. We need larger donations to help us through this challenging time, but every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. Your donation of $1,000, $100, or $10 will help us provide food to the hungry, give shoes to children in need, and, most importantly, share the message of Jesus with all those who seek our help.
This month at Fred Jordan Missions, we will continue, as we have for 80 years, to feed, clothe, care for, and love poor, needy, hungry, homeless, hopeless, helpless, and hurting Americans.
