Juice from a Dumpster on Thanksgiving?

Juice from a garbage dumpster behind a fast food restaurant may be the only Thanksgiving meal for little Victor.

“When I feed my baby out’ the garbage, I never give him milk, ‘cause it spoils so quickly. I look for juice, then taste it to make sure it’s good, before I give it to him, “Victor’s desperate mother told me, as she shared the horror of trying to feed her toddler, while living on the streets.

Think of it! Homeless mothers in America feeding their babies from garbage cans! Sadly, this unthinkable indignity is what this poor woman, and thousands like her in our inner cities, face every day, even during this coming holiday season - - unless you help.

Most of us have cherished memories from Thanksgivings past. I pull out my favorite family recipes. I roast turkeys, make mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, homemade cranberry sauce, and my mother’s Arkansas cornbread dressing, with sage, and lots of eggs.

Preparing the big meal takes time, but the effort is worth it, because it isn’t just sustenance. It’s a time to thank God for His blessings, for the bounty on the table, and for the joy of family and friends.

But imagine if you had nothing. No home. No recipes to ponder. No wonderful aromas filling your kitchen, and no joy filling your soul.

Please help us provide Thanksgiving for homeless Americans. 1-844-FJM-FOOD is our toll-free number for your Thanksgiving donation. Use a credit card when you phone, or when you donate online, fjm.org.

Before you sit down to your holiday table, please make sure the poor have been served first. Thank you!

Blessings,

Willie Jordan (Mrs. Fred Jordan)
