From the desk of Joe Jordan

I hesitated to write this letter, but I firmly believe that the Lord has placed an urgent need on my heart to share with you.

Last year was truly a remarkable year for FJM in our mission to “declare and demonstrate the love of

Jesus” to those we serve on Skid Row and beyond.

However, a few months ago, we faced an unexpected challenge when a new fire marshal from Los Angeles conducted a walk-through of the Mission. The news he brought was surprising and demanded immediate action.

In nearly 80 years, neither my father nor my mother had ever encountered any fire or safety concerns. We have had fire marshals and inspectors visit us annually, and everything was always in compliance. But this time, for whatever reason, the new fire marshal required us to make a series of costly changes amounting to over $150,000.

Here is the list of items we were required to change or update:

  • Replace the hardware on approximately 75 doors throughout the building.

  • Re-key each door on a grandmaster system, ensuring the fire department can access any door with a single key.

  • Make adjustments or relocate numerous illuminated exit signs, emergency lights, and strobes within the building.

  • Install new smoke seals on every door.

  • Replace some of our existing fire-rated doors with new ones.

Adding to this burden was the requirement to replace the fire panel in the lobby, which required

engineering work and permits from the building department.

Today, with the work finally completed, the bills from the contractors are now due. We have paid as much as we can, and a few concerned friends of FJM have generously stepped up to help us bring the balance owed down. But we still find ourselves with an outstanding amount due and the inability to pay it. This

outstanding amount is above what our ministry needs to help those on Skid Row and beyond each day.

With a humble heart, I seek your assistance to help us cover the remaining costs and provide the funds needed to feed and care for the poor and homeless. I assure you I would not make this request if it were not urgent.

Over the years, you have shown us unwavering support through your prayers and generosity, and we are eternally grateful. Your continued love and support of Fred Jordan Missions and those we serve in Jesus’ name has made a tremendous impact.

Thank you for considering our plea and helping us continue to serve hope to those who need it most.

God bless you,

Joe Jordan
