Thanksgiving on Skid Row
As followers of Christ, we are called to declare His teachings and extend a helping hand to demonstrate His love to those in need.
Throughout the Bible, there are numerous instances where Jesus showed compassion towards the poor and needy, emphasizing the importance of caring for our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus reminds us, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40).
For 80 years, Fred Jordan Missions has been a shining light in the darkness, providing the hope of Jesus, food, clothing, and other essentials to millions of individuals on Skid Row in Los Angeles and beyond. It is all thanks to the unwavering dedication and commitment of my parents, Fred and Willie Jordan, who began the Mission’s work in 1944, which is now carried on by our dedicated “Team Jesus” staff.
During Thanksgiving, the mission’s tradition of setting up banquet tables on the streets has brought warmth and sustenance to the hearts and bodies of countless souls. Volunteers, by the thousands, have come together to serve those in dire need, reflecting the true spirit of selflessness and compassion.
In the heartfelt words of my mom, Willie Jordan, “I wish we could work ourselves out of a job, but Jesus said the poor will be with us always.”
These words ring true, reminding us of the persistent call to action and the ongoing need for love and service in our communities. We must continue the work, undeterred by the challenges that lie ahead, because every marginalized individual deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.
Right now, I urge you to join us while it’s on your heart.
Your contribution, no matter the amount, will significantly impact the lives of those struggling in poverty.
We need:
10 individuals to donate $1000
50 people to give $500
100 generous souls to contribute $100
and hundreds more to offer what they can - $35, $15, $5 – every gift matters.
Let us stand together in unity, embodying the spirit of love and compassion that Jesus exemplified.
God bless you,
JOE JORDAN President/Senior Pastor
